POS for Poultry Businesses in Hong Kong: Birds, Kilos, Trays and Credit

The farm delivery came in at six. By ten you've sold live birds, a few whole dressed birds, two kilos of pieces to someone buying for a family function, and a crate of eggs to a restaurant that will "pay at the end of the month". At closing, the bird count doesn't match the morning, the drawer is short, and three of the eggs in that crate were cracked before it left.

Nobody stole anything, probably. But nobody can prove it either.

The short answer: a poultry business needs a POS that sells live birds, whole dressed birds, halves and pieces from one stock, works out the price from the weight you enter for pieces sold by the kilo, sells eggs by the piece, tray and crate, records birds that die or spoil and eggs that break the same day, and keeps restaurants and hotels on account with a credit limit. That turns a notebook full of guesses into a daily number you can trust.

One chicken, four ways to sell it

This is what makes poultry different. The same bird can leave your shop:

  • alive,
  • as a whole dressed bird,
  • as halves,
  • as pieces, sold by the kilo.

Eggs go by the piece, the tray or the crate. A single customer might want one of each on the same receipt.

On paper, every one of those is a separate calculation and a chance to slip. In EliteTeQ, each sells the right way from one stock. For pieces, you set a price per kilo, the cashier enters the weight from your scale, and the till works out the price. No rounding in your head, no "let's call it this much". Eggs sell by piece, tray or crate, and the count comes off correctly whichever way you sell them.

One thing to be clear about: the cashier types the weight in. EliteTeQ doesn't read it from the scale. For most poultry counters that's fine, because the point is the right price and an honest record of what was sold.

Losses you can see the same day

Poultry doesn't keep. Birds die in transit or overnight, dressed birds spoil if the cold room fails during a power cut, eggs crack. In most shops, those losses disappear into "we sold less today".

When they're recorded as losses, with a reason, the same day, things change. You see how many birds you lose per delivery, whether one farm's birds arrive weaker than another's, and whether that cold room is costing you more than a generator would. Each farm delivery is received against your order and recorded at cost, and birds or trays that arrive unfit go back and come off the farm's bill.

You also get margin per delivery and per supplier. If one farm is cheaper but you lose more birds from their deliveries, the report shows it.

Cash, mobile money and staff

Most of the day's money in a poultry shop is cash and mobile money, passing through several pairs of hands. That's where profit leaks without anyone noticing.

Every person has their own login, so every sale is tied to a name and a shift. Only the roles you choose can change the price per kilo or the egg price, give credit or void a sale, and only you see costs and margins. EliteTeQ records Octopus, card and cash against each sale, so the end-of-day report shows what should be in the drawer and what should have come in by phone. If the bird count or the cash is short, you know which shift to ask.

Restaurants, hotels and caterers on account

For many poultry businesses, the steady money is trade: restaurants that take birds every morning, hotels that order before a conference, caterers before the wedding season. Almost all of them want credit.

In EliteTeQ, each trade customer has an account with a credit limit and a running balance. Their orders go on the account, and you send statements on WhatsApp instead of driving round to chase. You also confirm orders with your farms the same way. When a restaurant asks to add thirty birds to an account already at its limit, your cashier can see the limit and the balance on the account before the birds leave.

A week, before and after

Before: you count birds in the morning with a notebook and again at night. The numbers rarely agree. Two staff quote different prices for the same cut. A crate of cracked eggs gets written off in your head. A hotel's balance is somewhere across four pages.

After: every delivery is received at cost. Every sale, whether live, whole, halves, pieces or eggs, comes off one stock. Losses are logged with a reason before closing. The drawer matches the report, the hotel gets its statement on WhatsApp on Friday, and you know which farm actually makes you money.

More than one outlet

If you run a main shop and a branch, or a farm gate and a market stall, you can see live birds, dressed birds, pieces and egg trays in each one, and send stock from the main shop to a branch that's running short with both counts right. The stock follows the customers instead of spoiling where nobody's buying.

Sales, farm purchases and expenses post to your accounts as they happen, with profit by branch and by delivery. Staff records and roles sit in the same system as your stock.

The practical bits

  • Offline: when the network drops, EliteTeQ keeps selling and syncs when it's back.
  • Devices: use a phone, tablet or laptop you already have.
  • Price: from USD 499 per year.

Start by recording every delivery and every loss for two weeks. That alone shows you where the money goes. Then move your trade customers onto accounts.
