A lot of owners come to Odoo the same way. Someone recommends it, the Community edition is free to download, and the demo looks like it does everything: sales, stock, accounting, purchasing, manufacturing, a till. Three months later the shop is still running on the old cash book because the setup isn't finished, and the person who was configuring it has moved on to another client.
That isn't Odoo's fault. It's a powerful system. It just asks for a kind of project that many shops, restaurants and pharmacies don't have the time or people for.
The short answer: if you have a developer, an IT team or a trusted Odoo partner, and you want a system you can shape around unusual workflows, Odoo is a serious option. If you want to be selling, counting stock and seeing every branch from one screen without running a software project, EliteTeQ is the more practical fit.
What Odoo is, fairly described
Odoo is a broad open-source business suite from Belgium. It comes as a free Community edition and a paid Enterprise edition, and it's built from apps you switch on: Point of Sale, Inventory, Accounting, Purchase, Manufacturing, HR and many more. Partners around the world implement and customise it.
What it does well:
- Breadth. Few systems cover as much ground in one codebase.
- Customisation. With a developer, you can change almost anything.
- A large community. Modules, forums and partners in many countries.
What you take on with it:
- Setup is a project. Choosing apps, configuring them and fitting them together takes real hours, usually from someone technical.
- Upkeep. New versions arrive regularly, and custom modules sometimes need updating before you can move.
- Cost adds up in pieces. Edition, hosting, apps and partner time are separate lines on the bill.
- Support depends on your plan or partner. A good partner is valuable; a busy one can leave you waiting.
What EliteTeQ is
EliteTeQ is a cloud POS with the back-office pieces a trading business needs: real-time stock, purchasing and suppliers, multi-branch, staff roles and reporting. It runs in a browser on devices you already own, and our team sets it up with you rather than handing you a manual.
It isn't trying to be a manufacturing or HR suite. It's built for businesses that buy stock, sell it over a counter, and want the numbers to add up at the end of the day.

Where the difference really shows
The first month
With Odoo, the first month is usually spent deciding how things should work: which apps, which fields, which approval steps. That's time well spent if your processes are unusual. For a mini-mart or a hardware shop, the processes are usually standard, and the waiting is the cost.
With EliteTeQ, the first month is spent trading. Products go in, staff get their logins, the till starts recording sales, and you start seeing which items move and which sit on the shelf.
The day the power goes
In much of Africa and Asia, the internet and the power are not promises. A till that freezes when the router drops means a queue at the counter and sales written on paper that never quite get entered later.
EliteTeQ keeps selling offline and syncs the sales once the connection is back, so nothing has to be re-typed. Odoo's POS can also work through some outages, but how well it holds up depends on the version and how it was set up, so test it in your own shop before you rely on it.
More than one branch
When you open a second or third location, the questions change. Which branch is short of sugar? Who moved ten cartons from the main store, and did they arrive? EliteTeQ shows every branch's stock and sales in one view and records transfers between them. Odoo can do this too, but someone has to configure the warehouses, routes and permissions first.
Who you call
When something goes wrong on a busy Saturday, you want a person, not a ticket queue. EliteTeQ support is our own team, reachable by phone and WhatsApp. With Odoo, the answer depends on your plan and, more often, on your partner.
Who should choose Odoo
Odoo is the better choice if:
- You have in-house developers or a reliable local partner you already trust.
- You need manufacturing, project or HR tools alongside the till.
- Your workflows are genuinely unusual and worth paying to build.
Who should choose EliteTeQ
EliteTeQ is the better choice if:
- You run a shop, supermarket, pharmacy, restaurant or wholesale counter and want it working this week.
- Your internet or power is unreliable and the till can't stop.
- You have, or plan to have, more than one branch and want them in one view.
- You want staff roles and audit logs, so you can see who voided what.
- You'd rather have a predictable yearly subscription than a bill made of pieces.
Before you decide
Write down the three things that cost you money today. Maybe it's stock that never matches the count, a branch you can't see, or a cashier's drawer that's always short. Then ask each vendor to show you, live, how their system handles those three things. You'll learn more in that half hour than from any feature list.
If you'd like to see EliteTeQ handle your three, book a free demo or message us on WhatsApp and talk to a real person. You can also read how we compare with [Loyverse](/blog/eliteteq-vs-loyverse/) or see a wider list of [Odoo POS alternatives](/blog/best-odoo-pos-alternatives/).
