Which POS System Is Best for Small Business in Uganda? (2026 Guide, Prices Compared)

For Uganda businesses, a POS has to do two jobs: run stock and sales, and issue receipts that meet URA’s EFRIS rules where they apply. This guide compares the main options on price, offline selling, branches and EFRIS, using each provider’s own published information.

UgaPOS and Novas 360 show different prices on different pages of their own websites; the table uses each one’s pricing page. Vendor EFRIS claims are the vendors’ own; we found no public URA list of accredited POS integrations to confirm them. “Not stated” means the provider’s page did not mention it when we checked.

What should a POS do for a Uganda business?

Customers pay by MTN Mobile Money, Airtel Money, card and cash, so the POS should record every payment method against the same sale. It should track stock and profit by branch, keep selling when the network drops, and issue EFRIS e-receipts if your business is in scope.

How much does a POS system cost in Uganda?

Ugandan POS software is often sold as a setup or first-year fee plus a yearly renewal: SimuPOS from UGX 500,000 for setup and the first year, UgaPOS from UGX 1,200,000 for the first year on its pricing page, and EzyPOS at UGX 750,000. Subscription options include Novas 360 from USD 15 per month and Loyverse, which is free with paid add-ons. EliteTeQ POS starts from USD 499 per year.

Does my POS need URA EFRIS?

EFRIS, URA’s Electronic Fiscal Receipting and Invoicing Solution, applies to all VAT-registered businesses and, since July 2025, to businesses in 12 designated sectors whether or not they are VAT-registered, including accommodation and food service and the wholesale and retail of fuel. Businesses with turnover under UGX 10 million are excluded from that expansion. Other non-VAT shops are advised, but not required, to use it.

VAT in Uganda is 18%, with registration required above UGX 150 million a year. Businesses can issue e-receipts through URA’s mobile app, an EFD device, desktop software, the web portal, or system-to-system, where the POS connects directly to EFRIS. EliteTeQ can integrate with URA EFRIS.

How to choose a POS in Uganda

  • EFRIS: if you are VAT-registered or in a designated sector, confirm in writing how the POS issues EFRIS e-receipts.
  • Mobile money: MTN and Airtel payments should land on the same sale record as card and cash.
  • Offline selling: the till should keep working when the network drops.
  • Total cost: compare the first-year fee with the yearly renewal, not just one of them.
  • Branches: check how many locations each plan includes.
